Phone Calls
Normative not only allows but encourages phone calls with family. We usually monitor those calls. We have found that our family work is much stronger when contacts occur as a team, especially in the early stages of the student’s program. By monitoring calls, we are immediately aware of the problems and concerns of both our students and their families. This allows us to address and work through issues as they arise.
In addition, youth at the ages of those who come into NSI often are masters at manipulating the adults in their lives. Left to their own resources, they will often say one thing to the team here at NSI and share a completely different story with their families, then present even a third version to their caseworker or probation officer! It’s difficult to form a strong team when the right hand and left hand are working in different directions. All of our monitoring is aimed at alleviating these problems so that your child’s chances of success are enhanced rather than hindered by the adults on their team.
